Q. If I decide to sponsor an intern, am I guaranteed a student?

NO.

    * Each student chooses the internship. We do not 'place' students, only try to guide. Any compatible internship notice sent to the internship supervisor will be posted on the internship bulletin board and with career services.
    * Even if your location may seem prohibitive, students have interned in NY, California, Florida, Virginia, Germany and other distant locations during summer and spring (if all classes have been taken) internships. So please send a notice if you are interested at all.

Q. Do I have to pay an intern?

NO.

    * This is a nonpaying internship. That being said, if you decide to pay a student a stipend to help with expenses we won't stop you.
    * If a student is paid for services on a regular basis, the student will be considered to be employed by the sponsor and the sponsor will be responsible for Workman's Compensation, Disability Insurance, Unemployment Insurance, and other legal obligations normally assumed for regular employees. LVC will not be held responsible for stated responsibilities.

Q. What about health insurance?

    * The student is covered under the college insurance policy. Basically an internship is a class that takes place off campus.
    * Summer Internships are not normally covered by the college unless the student has purchased additional insurance through the college.
    * See above section on paid interns.

Q. If I don't like a student do I have to keep him / her ?

You have total say as to whether an intern is working out. At no time do we want your business to be compromised in any fashion.

Q. When do internships take place?

    * Music business interns sign up for an internship during the fall semester of their senior year.
    * Music recording interns sign up for internship during the spring semester of their semester year.
    * Some internships may take place during the summer following the completed junior semester (See summer internships).
    * Some students may choose part time internships instead of full time internships.

Q. How do I get an intern?

We treat the whole internship process as a run-through for the student to find, apply for, and succeed in a job related to his/her major. If you are interested, a notice will be placed on the bulletin board. It is up to the student to decide to send you a resume and arrange an interview. We will guide them in the resume and interview process. If you decide to accept an intern, the intern will fill out a form as well as ask you to fill out and sign required internship forms.

Contact the internship supervisor (contact information stated below).

Q. How are they graded?

    * You will fill out a mid-term and final form concerning the intern. The grade you assign as well as the paper, journal, and discussion with the intern will determine the final grade.
    * If you would like to know more...go to the INTERNSHIP PURPOSE PAGE.

If you or your company is interested in being a sponsor, please mail or e-mail me the name of the business, whom the intern should contact, the type of business, requirements expected of the intern, job description , address and phone number .
